Independent Investigations

Campus Integrity Group conducts prompt, independent, and thorough investigations into alleged misconduct in K-1 2 school communities and youth organizations. We also have a demonstrated record of handling complex, sensitive, multi-respondent, and high-profile cases that are simply beyond the experience level of your in-house team. While there is no one-size-fits-all approach to investigations, we follow professional best practices at each step, including interviews, documentation, evidence collection, and analysis.

Why hire an outside investigator? Plenty of reasons.

First, our role is to conduct thorough, impartial investigations based on the preponderance of evidence standard. We have no personal or professional ties to the institution or individuals involved, helping us avoid bias and blind spots that can compromise the integrity of an internal investigation. The result: a more accurate, objective, and defensible outcome, reducing risk and liability for everyone involved.

External investigators are also often perceived as more neutral and credible than staff, especially in sensitive cases like those implicating leadership or that pose potential civil liability. Moreover, parties and witnesses are often more willing to share potentially embarrassing information with outside investigators than members of their own community who they will see every day at school or other organizations. Finally, many K-12 administrators and other staff members tasked with investigating a complaint wear multiple hats, and lack the time, resources, training, or independence needed for a truly fair and focused investigation.

What to Expect: Our Investigation Process

Every case is different, but our process is always grounded in the same principles: thoroughness, fairness, and integrity. Here's what working with Campus Integrity Group typically looks like:

Initial Consultation. We start by listening. We'll talk through the situation, ask questions, and help you determine whether an outside investigation is the right next step and what scope makes sense.

Scoping and Planning. Once engaged, we outline the investigative plan, including who we'll interview, what evidence we'll review, and an estimated timeline. Because our investigations are driven by the allegations and the evidence, scope and timelines can shift as new information emerges. We communicate any adjustments clearly and promptly, so you're never left wondering where things stand.

Investigation. Our team conducts interviews, collects and analyzes evidence, and follows every lead with care and precision. We work efficiently without cutting corners, and we keep you updated on progress along the way.

Reporting. At the close of the investigation, you receive a detailed written report documenting our findings, the evidence reviewed, and our conclusions. Reports are written to be clear, defensible, and useful, whether for internal decision-making, personnel action, or legal proceedings.

Follow-Up Support. We don't disappear after the report is delivered. We're available to answer questions, provide context, and support next steps, including any remediation, training, or policy work that might follow.
